February Newsletter

Happy New Year 2008! We had a nice family Christmas…Mom & Dad, James & I and Elizabeth for Christmas morning and then James’s Ontario family joined us for Christmas dinner. On Boxing Day my niece Jenny and nephew Robert came to visit. Well, Christmas has come and gone and all of a sudden it is February and we are off to Harrisburg PA for our first sport show. I don’t know about you folks, but the months just seem to fly by.

We have seen Ryan a couple of times ….. Stopping in to show us a Salmon he caught and a Trout…..out there fishing in the cold, ice and snow…..crazy as ever.

Right before Christmas we lost our black and white cat…Bugsy, he had a heart condition that snuck up on us and it has been sad losing him. Hooter, the black cat, still wanders the house calling for him. I keep insisting that we need to replace him, but James is ignoring me. Dora and Hunter have settled in to our Southern Ontario Home and spend countless hours wrestling out on the back lawn. Of course both of them love to dig so it is a bit of a mine field.

Clay has been hunting deer and Moose and ducks and living the life he loves. Bodacious is missing his buddy Hunter but has his sons and daughters to play with as Clay’s mom and dad and sister took two of the pups. Like Dora they are full of puppy tasks and Clay reports they are giving Bo a run for his money.

Carolyn Higo has bought her home in Latchford and is enjoying the winter months fixing up her new house and relaxing. (Like Carolyn ever relaxes…)

Kevin & Kathleen Goddard (some of you will remember them as our employees from many years ago), they own and operate the McKewen Gas Station in Latchford where many of you stop on your way to and from Camp. Well, they have expanded their horizons and bought the Latchford Bed & Breakfast and will take over ownership in April of 2008. It‘s a nice place to stay. Their telephone number for reservations is 705 676-2313, just ask for Kevin or Kathleen.

Many of you have asked me how Sarah Switzer is doing. She is still at University in BC and will be taking a group of volunteers to Tanzania again this summer. They are building a bigger library in Dar Salaam. Sarah is always looking for donations and help. Her email is sarahswitzer@hotmail.com

You are all up to date now on the Red Pine family, we hope that all of you are staying healthy and safe.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS AND THAT…..

Economic Concerns: It appears that both the US and Canada are approaching a recession (the media thinks so anyway…I always like to be optimistic and say “even if 7% of folks are unemployed…that means that 93% still have jobs and will need a vacation”.

Passport Confusion: Currently the regulations say both Canadians and Americans need passports to FLY in and out of the US. To drive both need a photo ID AND a birth certificate. LAND BORDER TRAVEL New land border travel deadline will be enforced at some point prior to June 1, 2009, no exact date is set.

We are looking forward to our 2008 season, welcoming old friends and making new. Stay in touch and think fishing……
