Spring is Just Around the Corner - March 2010

It is hard to imagine that in just 11 weeks the ice will be off of Lady Evelyn Lake and we will be getting ready to host your fishing holidays for 2010.  It just seems that we closed up camp and all of a sudden it is almost time to get back home to our wilderness dream.

Last season we hosted Fish TV and Canadian Sportfishing, we sponsored the Ministry of Natural Resources "Fish Art" contest and hosted two of the young winners and their families.  We also partnered with Ontario Toursim and Chill Magazine and hosted the winners of that contest Malcom Arglye from Ottawa, ON.  We have added those Chill Magazine email addresses to our data base and hope you enjoy our Newsletters and updates.

At this time there are still cottages available for most of our season.  We have three day packages, four day getaways and of course our usal 7 Day full relaxation plan.  (Sounds like a Spa....well maybe a fishing Spo.......t).  There are some discount deals available for larger groups and "Show Specials" for those of you that quote the magic number.

At the Toronto Fishing show this past weekend, most of our staff (family) were helping me in the booth.  They can hardly wait for spring to help you have a great vacation and I can't wait to get back in the kitchen and get cooking.  Of course James and Clay can hardly wait to get back up and finish the new Fish Cleaning house with the Flat screen TV, hockey, baseball, cleaning fish, frying them up right there in the evening for everyone to have a taste...I may never have to worry about where they are on the island....they'll be right in the Fish House cleaning fish and having fun.

Just to keep you up to date, many of you have been asking about our ongoing struggle with Ontario Hydro.  They seem to be trying a little harder to keep water levels steady, probably due to the court action that we are involved with.  Legal stuff always proceeds slowly and we have been to discovery etc.  so the wheel is turning.  We are searching for photos of islands, rock and sand, that due to water levels are no longer visible.  If any of you have any of those photos please email them to us. example:  across from Ellen Island there is a shoal that used to be out of the water,  at the dam there is a rock shoal just before the dam that used to be out of the water ....etc.

It will be great to see old friends and make new ones again this season.  Red Pine is our life and our guests our lifeline.  Sharing your holidays throughout the years, watching your families grow, feeling your sorrows and joys are very much a part of our lives.  It seems like yesterday James and I began our journey and yet this will be our 22nd year.  James turns 50 in April, and me, well next year will be the big one for me.  Mom and Dad (Lil & Bud) are doing fine and Elizabeth is doing well in school and next year is her senior year at High School, getting ready for University.

Dora and Hunter are passing the winter wrestling in the snow (when we have any) and mooching.  I'm afraid they've (we've) all gained weight this winter.  While Bo is up north with Clay, being BORED and this week he is pairing up with Dora's mom again and we should have more puppies in the spring.  So if you are in the market for a black or yellow lab,  early May is the time.

Here are some more photo's for your enjoyment.  I am sending off our new slide show today to have it put on our website so make sure to check it out.

Be safe, and think spring and fishing.  I can almost smell those pine trees and hear the loons calling.....

See you soon...... Janice

Ben and Peggy

Ben and Peggy visited us for the first time last spring, they caught great numbers of walleye and a few nice "big ones" .  They had so much fun they are coming back again this year.  I'm not sure if that was Ben's fish or Peggy's but they both seem happy.

Deb with string of fish

Deb caught these in July, we all enjoyed them at shore lunch.  Notice the rain gear, yes folks it did rain quite a lot last season, in fact we only saw sunshine 25 days during the season.  But boy those fish love the rain.....we had our best "catching" season in 21 years.  I do like a bit more sunshine though, but Ryan and Clay both love the rain and the snow.....go figure!

Coach with a Pike

Now lets talk big ugly Northern Pike!  The story has it that Coach caught this Pike and his reel was all scrambled and he had to hand over hand pull in the line.  Ryan says that it gave coach quite a fight....hand to hand combat style.  Nice fighting Coach!

Peggy with Smallmouth Bass

While I was looking through photos I found this lovely Smallmouth Bass that Peggy caught. Yes, it's still raining....

Bo the Dog looking sad

Bo after everyone has gone.  "This is so sad, Is it almost time......I can't wait!  Please come home!"
